Milkweed Kaleidoscope

Did you like the garden kaleidoscope patterns in the Kaleidoscope Node Showcase article? Here's a freebie .gtx file you can use to make beautiful textures like this one:

Milkweed Kaleidoscope #1

If you don't have your own copy of Genetica yet, don't worry. Just download the demo version and have fun!

The .gtx file contains a node tree that imports an image (in this example, a garden photo of a milkweed flower) and transforms it using a couple of kaleidoscope nodes and a color adjustment node. Download the Milkweed Kaleidoscope.gtx file here.

Playing with the kaleidoscope node settings lets you transform this source photo

into seamless tiling patterns like these:

Milkweed Kaleidoscope #2Milkweed Kaleidoscope #3Milkweed Kaleidoscope #4Milkweed Kaleidoscope #5

And if that sounds like too much work, since this is the Freebie section of Fun With Genetica, it is OK to right click on the textures in this article and save yourself a copy for your own personal, non-commercial use.

The Milkweed Kaleidoscope GTX node tree is a great way to take your reject photos and turn them into something pretty and perfect. In my source photo, you can see that the butterfly has left the milkweed - making the photo kind of useless as a butterfly photo! But it worked great as the source photo for the five textures I made.

After you use the Milkweed Kaleidoscope GTX to make your own gorgeous textures, be sure to stop by the Genetica Forum and show us all what you made!
